This working is a two part series: herbs and weeds.?
  • Herbs come in both perennial and annual herbs. To ensure the largest crop, different herbs have different harvesting requirements. ?Come learn how to ensure your parsley doesn’t bolt, to keep a strong basil crop all summer long, and how to keep the theme coming back year after year.?
  • Weeds are overtaking the flower garden. ?Learn how to identify rag weed, or the difference between morning glory and cucumber tendrils. This will allow you to weed in confidence.
Bring a baggie if you want to bring home your harvested herbs.

Free Creative Writing Workshops: August

South Brooklyn Children’s Garden partners with?NY Writers Coalition?for?free creative writing workshops this August.

Young writers ages 6-8?write together?Tuesdays in August?against the backdrop of the beautiful South Brooklyn Children’s Garden. This workshop offers a refreshing counter-point to the academically focused work children are practicing in during the school year each day. Writers will improve their listening skills, build self-confidence, and increase their love of writing while crafting poems and stories in a workshop designed to reduce competition among writers, allowing writers of different ages and experience levels to write together and grow.? Planting/Harvest Schedule

For those who wonder how we decide what is being planted and where, the planning committee take the winning crops from the annual member voting and develops a calendar to ensure the crops cultivated optimally?for the season, space and yield. While this is a work in progress and weather patterns force the plans to change, this is what we based the 2013/2014 planting/harvest plans from.
